Abstract submission
Thinking
about submitting a paper, facilitating a workshop or contributing to
the knowledge café at the Congress? The deadline for the online
abstract submission has now been extended to 13 March 2009! Please make use of this opportunity to submit an abstract if you have not already done so.
Congress programme – the Wednesday Workshop
Instead of the usual technical tours, we are planning to include a
stimulating hands-on workshop on the Wednesday during the Congress at
the Durban Botanic Gardens. This will provide an opportunity to attend
a range of engaging workshops on practical education methods used in
botanic gardens
We look forward to seeing you in Durban in November

Pre and post congress tours
The sub-tropical city of Durban and our province of KwaZulu-Natal incorporate an eclectic cross cultural landscape of people and places. We have included an exciting range of nature and culture-based tours to cater for a wide range of interests. Click here to visit the Tours page on the Congress website for more information.
Durban – KwaZulu-Natal – South Africa: find out more!
Durban within the province of KwaZulu-Natal is a botanical treasure: home to no less than 780 species of indigenous trees, shrubs and climbers and over 10 000 species of plants - one of the richest floral regions in Africa. Durban’s muthi (traditional medicine) markets combined are the largest in South Africa with over 4000 tonnes of plant material sold annually. BGCI recently published a handbook on medicinal plants ‘Plants for life: Medicinal plant conservation and botanic gardens’ by Belinda Hawkins that is well worth reading (www.bgci.org/ourwork/medplants/).
