Preliminary Programme

The Congress programme will consist of:

Papers

These involve sharing information about best practice, pedagogical approaches and lessons learnt. Papers should be relevant to one of the major topics.

Posters

These are usually made prior to the congress and displayed in a public area for delegates to read. Details about the size of space available will be found here in early 2009.

Workshops

Evaluation of past BGCI congresses indicates that delegates value time to think, reflect and talk together about educational issues as well as opportunities to participate in hands-on activities and games. Workshops provide opportunities for people to meet and explore topics of common interest. BGCI is keen to encourage participants to run workshops. The aim of the workshop facilitator is to involve participants as much as possible through discussion, problem solving and the development of new ideas. Information may be presented for discussion by smaller groups or be constructed by participants through discussion.

Knowledge Café

Here delegates can have an open, creative conversation on a topic of mutual interest to share ideas and insights, and gain a deeper understanding of the subject and the issues involved. A space will be set up like a café with chairs and tables, on which will be paper and marker pens for scribbling, drawing and making notes. A facilitator will briefly introduce the topic and pose one or two key open-ended questions. For example, if the topic is Education for Sustainable Development, one of the questions for the group might be ‘What are the barriers to implementing ESD in your organisation and how do you over come them?'. The group then breaks into small groups of about four or five people to discuss the questions. Groups later rejoin the circle and feed back their thoughts, insights and ideas to the main group.
