About the Congress

Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) (www.bgci.org) in association with Durban Botanic Gardens (www.durbanbotanicgardens.org.za) are pleased to announce the 7th International congress on Education in Botanic Gardens ‘Action Learning: places, spaces and partnerships for biodiversity and human wellbeing'. The congress takes place from Sunday 1st - Friday 6th November 2009 and is hosted by Durban Botanic Gardens, located in the vibrant province of KwaZulu-Natal (www.kzn.org.za).

The themes addressed during the congress will be:
  • Achieving the GSPC and MDGs through education
  • Ways of learning towards environmental justice
  • Climate change and botanic gardens: interpretation for action
  • The Decade of ESD: plants, sustainability, education and culture

Simultaneous translation into French will be available at plenary sessions only.

Who should attend?

The congress will provide a forum for environmental educators from botanic gardens worldwide as well as educators and other staff from plant science institutes, education and conservation organizations, zoos, museums, national parks and nature reserves, to discuss ideas and issues - particularly pertinent in the light of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
